Boy, 11, stabs friend, 13, to death

For Umar Ibrahim who clocked 11 years recently, life whether in jail or as a free person, will never be the same again, as he will be constantly haunted by the memory of the day he sent his bosom friend, Sadi Ibrahim, to the grave after a minor brawl.
Umar and late Sadi used to be the best of friends in their village in Shanono Local Government area. But two weeks ago, a little quarrel ensued between them, resulting in the death of Sadi after Umar stabbed him.

On that fateful day, like every other day, the two boys alongside their friends, went into the fields to play. However, for no reason all the boys refused to allow Sadi join them in playing. For that, he got infuriated and started complaining. When he couldn’t bear the exclusion any more, Sadi moved to where his friend, Umar was sitting and pushed the latter, knocking his head to the wall in the process, all with the intention to provoke him into a fight.

At that point, Umar refused to be drawn into a brawl and restrained himself but when late Sadi accused Umar of being a hypocrite, the 11-year-old lost control of his patience and replied that Sadi was the hypocrite instead.

Soon, the two friends were hauling abuses at each other, to a point where late Sadi was said to have challenged Umar to join him in the bush for a bout so that they would know who amongst them was stronger. The younger Umar however, refused to take up the challenge and headed home, where he was sent on an errand.

Unknown to him, Sadi was not done with the altercation and the exchanges of abuses yet, so he reportedly went home, armed himself with a knife, and laid ambush on the way his friend would take to return home from the errand.

As fate would have it, when Sadi allegedly took out the knife and attempted to stab Umar with it, Umar overpowered him and seized the weapon from him. He was said to have moved in the direction of Umar to wrest the knife back, when the knife pierced his neck.

The Kano police command have through its PPRO, Baba Mohammed Azare, confirmed the incident saying medical examination has shown that Sadi died due to the knife injury, while they also said that Umar Ibrahim will be charged to a juvenile court as soon as investigations are completed.
