Political leaders in Idomaland are currently at the receiving end of harsh criticisms over the sorry state of the Otukpo General Hospital. The blogsphere literarily ‘caught fire’ on Tuesday after some disgusting pictures believed to be the toilet facility of the general hospital cropped up online. The hospital has not been renovated for over ten years.

Otukpo is the country home of Senate President, David Mark. Many indigenes, who expressed shock at the development, lambasted the Idoma political leaders and the nation’s number three man, David Mark for accommodating such a mess in his corridor. Reacting to the shameful development, frontline humour merchant and activist, Enenche De Comedian said: “When we talk, we don’t talk because we hate, we talk because of the wellbeing of our people back home.
“When Otukpo/Otukpa road was bad, we shouted and cried, we did this not because the road is what we ply daily, but the voices and sufferings of our people back home must be heard and seen… and that we achieved.

This toilet is a reflection of what other social amenities in Otukpo, ancestral headquarters of Idoma Kingdom look like today. “This is the toilet at the highest medical facility in Idoma land, then imagine what other local governments and villages would look like… your guess is as good as mine.
“The major Roundabout in Otukpo and this toilet are competing for first position in the curriculum of leadership failure. “Judge this yourself… I rest my case”.
Another citizen who gave his name as Philip Mathew said: “Even the toilet from mere looking is contagious and repelling.
“We loose value when we stop adding value. Honestly we need people who do not take people hostage on the wheels of power plays, but continue remind us of the energies of progress. The Hospital has a leadership and we have a Government. We have come to a point where the conscience of our leadership no longer pricks them. Our parents and loved ones way back in the village patronize this hospital. Many More surprises will come on Benue State leadership and Nigeria. What just happened in the recent election is what I entitled: ‘When Money Fails’. We just saw that money can still fail. Money can lose its value. Of all the money spent, some still lost
”.
Another resident, Tony Okwori voiced out his anger thus: “This is disgusting. For how long will our people go through this appalling situation? The other day Otukpo Central market got burnt by an uncontrolled fire because there is no fire service station in the whole of Otukpo town, too bad. Take a second look at the picture, haba! This toilet can cause ailment!”
Odejo John Omale is yet to believe that this is a hospital in the country home of the senate president.
Hear him: “Sadly this is the hometown of the third citizen of this country. I made a post recently and a lot of people made me look like a hater. This is shameful, Mark may have given a few jobs but he remains a disgrace to his fatherland. The last election results in Otukpo his home town remains an open rejection of his style of leadership. Nonsense!”
For Liberty John Enenche, the incoming government should not fail to send some people to the high walls of Kirikiri prisons for milking the nation dry.
His words, “This is a good work, you haven’t done nothing wrong for posting these pictures for the whole world to see. How can a toilet like this still be existing in a hospital? What would be the fate of the patients admitted into this hospital? This is the hospital from David Mark’s Local Government, a man who used Apa State creation as a campaign bait for us to keep voting him. The question in my heart is- if he can’t transform this hospital or even the toilet, how can he create Apa State? What about the constituency allowances given to him to develop the area he represents?
“It’s a shame and a disgrace. Even the money that is used to feed the dogs in his house on a monthly basis can be used to rebuild the entire hospital
”.
