The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has given indications that it “might” declare a former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff “wanted”.
The decision to possibly  declare the former governor wanted, according to the Head of Media and Publicity of the anti-graft agency, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, is consequent upon the former’s alleged refusal to honour an earlier invitation sent to him, to appear at its headquarters in Abuja, to answer questions on allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds when he was Borno governor between 2003 and 2011.
The Commission said a suspect, who fails to respond to an invitation, risks being declared wanted.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja Monday, the Commission’s spokesman said: “Once the Commission invites a suspect and he fails to honour the invitation, options are open.
“The commission might declare Modu-Sheriff wanted…”
Meanwhile, the Commission has said that contrary to the “campaign of calumny launched against it by two former staff: Ms. Juliet Ibekaku and Mr. Michael Nzekwe”, it has made significant strides in its anti-graft war.
To underline that assertion, the EFCC disclosed that it has recovered a total of N65,320,669,350.35.
“Between 2012 and 2014, the Commission recovered N65,320,669,350.35.
“Also, the sum of $245, 952,030.13 and £693, 399.00 and €62,600.00 were also recovered during the period.”
The Commission further debunked allegations that it had yet to secure the conviction of any politically exposed persons (PEPs), pointing to the convictions of former governors of Bayelsa and Edo states, Chiefs Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and Lucky Igbinedion, respectively.
This is as it maintained that the cases of alleged corruption involving some former governors, including Prince Abubakar Audu (Kogi), Senator Danjuma Goje (Gombe), Rev. Jolly Nyame (Taraba), and Joshua Dariye, were at various stages of trials.
“The cases involving former Kogi State governor, Abubakar Audu, former Gombe State governor, Danjuma Goje, former Nasarawa State governor, Akwe Doma, former Taraba State governor, Rev. Jolly Nyame are progressing in courts, as several witnesses have been called by the prosecution.  Of course the case against Ayodele Fayose has only been temporarily halted by the fact of his re-election as Ekiti State governor.
“We could go on and on. These records apply to cases involving ex-governors only.
“They do not tell the whole story regarding the prosecution and convictions record of the Commission.
“The obvious goal of Ibekaku is to hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians by her posturing as an anti-corruption czar, what with her curriculum vitae that advertises her as a top official of the EFCC, where she spent about seven years of her recent adult working life,” the Commission said through its spokesman.

EFCC can only win case against 419 guys but not Governors and ministers. You guys should understand that a man bringing money back to his country is better than a corrupt politician sending the money out of his country.
