Many African Artistes have castigated & complained bitterly the way Africans are always treated at BET Awards. Last year, it was published in an article just after the BET Awards that Sarkodie, Tiwa Savage and the other African artistes who were nominated performed in front of cleaners, BET staff and technicians who made up the BET Experience crowd.

Many had their own doubt about this—and this year, it has again emerged that Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and the others performed in front of 27 people at the ‘BET Experience’. And this 27 people were partly made up of BET cameramen, technicians and we are sure the cleaners were there to add up to the numbers as usual.

Live Fm’s Jay Foley who was at the BET with Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and others categorically stated on Starr Fm a few hours ago that; he counted the people at the auditorium and they were exactly 27, including cameramen and others…
Pretty pathetic—yet every year, our big stars run to the BET for the same experience.

When I try to put my fingers out there to fetch the real benefits our African musicians derive from this BET Awards which is clothed in unending contempt—ranging from backstage awarding which has graduated to become pre-event awarding to performing in front of just 27 people, I am unable to understand why they keep going out there…
And this is because, there is no real benefits for these artistes except perhaps to say;  I went to take a photo at the BET. Our stars do not even have the needed connections to be able to mingle with the big international stars and BET does not really care about giving them any attention (else, they wouldn’t cut them off the main shine) —yet, these people fly for hours each year to LA, for the BET Awards.

Our African celebrities must be obsessed with the BET Awards, such that, they are even ready to forfeit their ‘little’ status back home to be part of a scheme that does not recognise and somewhat disrespect their talent.

We’ve established that it so difficult for BET to give Africa, a huge continent of 54 countries just 2 minutes on its main stage—so on top of this, why do our big artistes go there to perform in front of 27 people made up of their own management, BET cameramen, technicians and ‘perhaps, the usual cleaners’?

Why do we feel the need to belong to where we are not welcomed? So Sarkodie became a god in front of 27 people—with half not giving a hoot about him…
Look, for the first time, I think Shatta Wale is right if he says these BET African artistes have nothing over him—in fact, they go there to be disrespected/marginalized.

We look at them as SLAVES. They look at Africans as the SLAVE TRADERS.

And I expect the "cleaners" were mostly Africans.

If you do not like the BET set up DO NOT GO AND PERFORM THERE!

Stage a music award in Nigeria and invite BET to attend and show them real hospitality.
