Buhari Orders Immigration Office To Cancel All Diplomatic Passports Issued To Unauthorized Holders

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Nigeria Immigration Service has been directed by the Nigerian Government to retrieve all valid diplomatic and official passports from those who are not entitled to hold such documents.

The statement signed on Monday, by the Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Interior, Yusuf Isiaka and made available to reads:
"The attention of the Federal Government has been drawn to the fact that some Nigerians who are not entitled to hold diplomatic and official passports are in possession of these documents. The Permanent Secretary, Mr Abubakar Magaji, Federal Ministry of Interior, has directed the Nigeria Immigration Service to retrieve all valid diplomatic and official passports with immediate effect from all persons who are not entitled to hold such documents."
The measure, according to the statement, is intended to protect and promote Nigeria’s integrity in the comity of nations in addition to ensuring law and order.

Everybody onw shld be withdrawn includong Buhari then they can appy for fresh one since they claim change is here. Change shld be for everythg.

A diplomatic passport holder means that they are technically a diplomat. I say technically because family members of the employee also hold a diplomatic passport and are held to the same behavioural codes of all diplomats, but they represent the country in social situations only (so no negotiating deals or such, not that all employees can do that). This is why some people may refer to themselves as a D passport holder but not a diplomat.

It is symbolic of agreements between the countries: these people will represent our country and should be treated with respect but, in exchange, we are making sure these are people of character (both security clearing them -well, not the kids and not all family- and holding them to codes of behaviour). It is a trade off: for example, you can still search their personal belongings in airports but they can ask you to not look at their WORK laptop in the security line-up, and we will do the same for your representatives. It is a trade of trust and countries are a little suspicious but go to great lengths to not break that trust.
