We´ve all heard how a 23-year-old Nigerian by name Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight 253 as it approached Detroit from Amsterdam on Christmas Day with almost 300 people on board. This is totally unbelievable, very sad, regrettable and must be condemned by the Nigerian Government unequivocally. Abdulmutallab's actions shocked and baffled all Nigerians home and abroad because no right thinking Nigerian would ever imagine engaging in such barbaric and idiotic act. I am a proud Nigerian, and I can confidently tell you most Nigerians only worry about how to improve there general well being and put food on the table for the families. Terrorism is not part of Nigerian tradition!

In as much as his father Alhaji Umaru Mutallab a former Nigerian banker warned the US authorities earlier regarding his son's increasingly 'extreme' religious views, the question is, who have been financing his evil trips to Egypt, Dubai and Yemen and who gave him the supposed $2,831 in cash he paid for a round trip ticket from Lagos to Detroit? reports shows he is not gainfully employed. Why didn't his family question his mission to the US? There are indeed a lot of questions that needs to be answered to get to the root of this terrifying matter!

Nigeria is a developing country and we are still trying very hard to erase the stigma as one of the corrupt nations and win the trust of more foreign investors and partners to help develop our ailing economy and ultimately eradicate poverty and improve the living standard of all Nigerians. The least thing we as a nation want at this point in time is to be associated as proprietors of terrorism. Our Muslim brothers must realize that religious extremism or radicalism have and can never develop a nation rather, it retards developmental efforts and tarnishes the image of a nation and it´s people on a global scale. We want to pursue our meaningful enterprises and jobs genuinely without suspicion or looked at as terrorists.

Also, considering the fact most of Nigeria's Muslims adhere to the Sufi sect, considered to be less contentious and dogmatic than other forms of Islam, I advice the Nigerian Government to look in to this serious matter and possibly institute a panel to identify how this 23 years old boy from a well to do family with promising educational background can engage in such ridiculous evil act and also proffer immediate and tentative solutions to ensure history never repeat itself again for the general benefits of Nigerian development and good image abroad.

You have a point here.  After 15 of 19, 9/11 terrorists were found to be from Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia launched a multi-million dollar campaign to make Saudi Arabia popular again.  Good positive suggestion.

God bless Nigeria.

RE: BLACKLISTING NIGERIA (FAROUK UMAR MUTALLIB SAGA)
The Nigerian image remained un-dented, because Farouk saga has nothing to do with Nigeria, Nigerians and or Muslims the world over as his faith was indoctrinated in the west (UK) not in “Our Great Country, Nigeria”. The truth of the matter is that, the west and America allowed their selfish parasitism nature to blacklist the most Peaceful Country on earth
However, the Americans have been partaking in “Terror Activities” just to mention a few: -
An American open fire against his countrymen (Colleagues) but, have you ever hard Nigerian Army Personnel open fire against his colleagues in the battlefield, but because he’s American no problem. More so he is not a terror and his country was not blacklisted by anybody.
The Americans are always backing the Zionist to oppress the defenseless Palestine. When ever Israel attached the weaker, poorest and hungry people. The American and their allies come strongly to defend the Zionist against the powerless Palestine in military combat and other forceful closure of borders, tuning the Palestine slaves in their own land.
If you hard Americans or United Nations sanctioning a country for disobeying the International Charter or Treaty it is neither Terrorism nor Crime against humanity. Let me at this juncture advice the west and the Americans to rise to their responsibility and bring a lasting peace in the Middle East. The growing Al-qa’ida followers in the Middle East can be reduced to zero level if properly handled. That is what Al-qa’ida is using to win the support of an ordinary man by exposing the Americans double standard.
An American can go to any place; school, market, church or any public gathering and open fire on innocent people but this is not a terrorist. The United Nations have been running away from the fact, that Americans through their so-called civilization indoctrinated the world over. How many time American and their allies trained non American just to go to their respective countries and commit crime or assassinate innocent people without recourse to the Right to Life.
In view of the foregoing, we want to see a free world worth living for everybody regardless of religion, race or colour. We are created by One and Only God, for us just to Worship Him alone. He creates both Muslims and Christians alike.
Finally, I want to firmly call on Nigerians to continue with their activities, as we well know we are not “Terrorist”.
Thanks may God Almighty Help Nigeria.

Insists terrorism ‘not our challenge’

Acting President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday restated the commitment of the Federal Government to conduct free and fair elections in 2011.

A statement from his office last night disclosed that Jonathan made the promise when he received in audience former US President, George W. Bush, at the Aguda House, Presidential Villa, Abuja, who was in Nigeria as a guest of THISDAY at its 15th Annual Awards held yesterday in the nation’s capital.

Jonathan promised that the Government will work towards ensuring that the electoral process is transparent and reflects the wishes of the Nigerian people.

“I can assure you that come 2011, Nigeria’s elections will be credible. We will do everything possible to overhaul the electoral process and leave a lasting legacy in our political history,” he stated.

Jonathan used the occasion to call on the US government to reconsider its stand on the listing of Nigeria among “countries of interest” under watch in the global war against terrorism.
He reiterated that terrorism is alien to Nigeria, noting that Nigeria and US are strategic partners for global peace and development.

He also thanked the US Government for its concern over the health of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Earlier, Bush congratulated Dr. Jonathan on his assumption of office as the Acting President and expressed his best wishes for President Yar’Adua.

He said: “Sometimes in life, the unexpected happens. We wish you all the best even though we know it is not an easy job. With God’s grace and the support of your team, you will succeed.”

Bush was accompanied by former US Secretary of State, Condoleezaa Rice, and US Ambassador to Nigeria, Robin Sanders.
Jonathan, in an address read on his behalf at the awards dinner by Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, said even though Nigeria has many challenges, terrorism is not one of them.
He expressed the hope that ongoing discussions between Nigeria and the US would lead to the country being de-listed the terror watch list.

In the face of the challenges of development, Jonathan said: “I make bold to say that most Nigerians are good people working very hard in their various endeavours both in Nigeria and the Diaspora.”

Senate President David Mark pledged that the National Assembly would continue to ensure that democratic challenges facing Nigeria are solved constitutionally.

Former Ghanaian President John Kuffuor said Nigeria is the anchor of West Africa and the continent as a whole, adding that he hoped that through Nigeria, the United States of West Africa will emerge.
