At least 30 people were killed in separate flooding incidents in Zamfara and Anambra following heavy downpour over the weekend. Twenty-four people died in Zamfara following a downpour that lasted for over seven hours and  property worth millions of naira were destroyed, including food items and domestic animals. Many of the dead are believed to be children and women. The rain also washed away over 400 houses and over 2,000 people are believed to have been rendered homeless. Most of the victims of the flooding are taking refuge at different government quarters. Eyewitness account said some of the dead were trapped in their rooms, while sleeping, as the rain started late at night. The areas mostly affected were Birnin Ruwa, Sabon Fegi, Filin Gunza and Tudun Wada. There was also flooding in  Sabon Gari, Hayin Danhausa, Tudun Kosau and Hayin Malam Sani. Meanwhile, in Anambra, six roadside traders were feared dead as they fell into a drain and were swept away by flood during a downpour on Saturday. Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at about 7p.m. at the foot of Upper Iweka flyover bridge by Ezeiweka Road Junction, along Onitsha-Owerri Road, Onitsha, Anambra State. The traders were doing their businesses on planks laid across the Sakamori gutter, when the planks suddenly broke and they fell in. Passers-by, who witnessed the incident, cried helplessly as no one dared jump into the rampaging flood.
The bodies of the traders had not been recovered and no one could establish their identities.

All of us shld work on our guttter and drainage system. We are guillty of dis. Environmental days are for clean up not for sleeping. Leaving d gutters dirty and full, it block d free flow and samethg to d drainage. Then d rain cums and flow straight into d houses. Lagos residents is worst and more guilty in dis.
