Togo international and Tottenham striker-Emmanuel Adebayor has confirmed in a Facebook post that, he has been released by the English club from his contract by a mutual agreement.
Adebayor wrote;
Quote
“I can confirm that I have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to terminate my contract. I wish to thank the club and the fans for my time there and I wish them well for the forthcoming season.”
The striker, 31, had not featured for Spurs this season and was left out of both their Premier League and Europa League squads—so this does not really come as shock. In a statement, Tottenham said, “We wish Emmanuel well for the future.”
Emmanuel Adebayor who arrived from Manchester City for £5m in 2012, had a year to run on his contract and had been seeking a £5m pay-off to end it early—but Tottenham have not disclosed the terms of the termination agreement.
Earlier last week, Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino said Adebayor was not “in my mind or in the plans for the future of Spurs”.
According to reports, Aston Villa and West Ham had keen interest in signing Adebyaor during the summer transfer window but they were put off by his high wage demands. Adebayor spent a successful season on loan at Spurs from Manchester City in 2011-12, scoring 17 goals— he managed 18 league goals in 47 league appearances after signing a permanent deal but featured just 17 times last season, having been granted two periods of compassionate leave for personal reasons.

Sadly but true. But this was long expected. The first error of judgment Ade made was leaving Arsenal and poking nose at their fans with that infamous touchline goal celebration. The second and probably most damaging was going public with his internal family problems. There are things you just do no matter the temptations when you are a public figure. That said, Ade is one player that gave great joy to watch during his days at Arsenal and I believe he still has what it takes to make a comeback. All he has to do is throw pride away and to seek forgiveness from those he knowingly and unknowly trangressed. Once that is done, he will surely find his feet again. I wish him the best of luck.
