A ghastly motor accident which occurred around Onicha-Ugbo community along Onitsha-Asaba expressway claimed nine lives, including the driver of the 18-seater bus. According to an eyewitness report, two corps members and many others were injured in the accident. The accident was caused when the tyre of the vehicle burst while the vehicle was on high speed, causing to somersault several times before it crashed into the bush. Sources said that the driver of the vehicle, Udoh Edom, was travelling with the passengers from Akwa Ibom to Lagos and was allegedly observed to be on high speed immediately after Onicha town when he was cautioned by the worried passengers but he paid no attention. It was revealed that few minutes after the passengers warned the driver of over-speeding, the two back tyres burst causing it to somersault, flinging the driver and eight other passengers out to the main road where they died on the spot. Many who gathered at the scene of the incident were seen shedding tears. One of the two corps members who escaped unhurt said: “We were just discharged few days ago from our NYSC in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. We thank God that we survived but we do not know how we survived because the driver paid deaf ears to our warnings when we observed he was on top speed.” Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and some police officers were seen evacuating the corpses of those who died while those who sustained injuries were rushed to Issele-Uku General Hospital.

Many atimes, these accidents are not ordinary. Had a personal experience on saturday 17th Oct, 2015 along Warri and Sapele Road. Travelling with my 4runner Jeep at abt 8:30am. One back tyre exploded and I was very careful not to apply the brake, having full control of the Jeep, all of a sudden, it began to fly and rotating in the air. Landed with one side of the back, jumped again and descended with one side of the front, then straight into a valley filled with stagnant water and began to rotate in the water. The rotation finally stopped with driver side down the water and the other side up. To God be the glory, I came out unhurt. No one believed the survival of the occupant much more coming out without a scratch. Two days b4 my journey, I had a confrontation over a contract with somebody representing a group.
