No fewer than 15 prospective candidates for the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Batch ‘B’ 2015, deployed to Delta State have been denied registration at the Orientation camp, over alleged thump-print errors.

It was gathered that many of the victims, who arrived the orientation camp at Issele-Uku village, near the state capital last Tuesday were refused registration, amidst protest and wailing by the candidates.

One of the victims, Miss Yetunde Ogunmola told DAILY POST on Thursday at the camp that she was denied registration by the NYSC authorities in the camp over an alleged differences in her thump prints.

She said: ” I arrived from Lagos on Monday night, only to be told on Tuesday morning that I cannot be registered because there were differences in my thump print. I am very upset at the moment.

“I don’t understand what they mean because I did the online registration myself and it is the same thump print that I used; so, how come they are saying my thump print is not correct with the one they already have?”

DAILY POST reliably gathered that most of the victims of the thump print errors, who were denied registration, besieged the NYSC authorities in the camp in protest over the delay in effecting their registration.

Another victim, Miss Jane Ikhagena, a graduate of Accountancy, whose request to be registered was also turned down, decried experiences of many victims of the thump print error in the camp.

“Many of us have been denied registration; this is very worrisome because we have our computer print-outs, yet they are saying our thump prints are not correct, can you imagine that?

“I came in from Port Harcourt, and since Tuesday morning, I have been stranded, I have not been registered, meaning that I am not a corp member yet. So, what do I tell my patents back home?”

Another victim, who gave his name as Francis, a graduate of the University of Ibadan, said he was currently unsettled at the camp due to his inability to complete his registration.

“They turned me back when I went for registration. The official told me that my thump print did not match, so I should step aside. I did the online registration myself; I don’t understand what they are talking about”, he lamented.

An official of the NYSC in the camp, who confirmed the agony of many of the candidates, told DAILY POST that the differences in their thump prints was an issue that needed intelligent approach.

The official, who refused to be named, said that since the opening of the camp last Tuesday, many of the candidates could not be registered after the authorities discovered there were huge differences in their thump prints.

“Many of the candidates could not be registered because we discovered many them could not match their thump prints used during their online registration.

“The issue of thump print needs a careful and intelligence approach so that we don’t end up admitting impersonators into the orientation camp,” he said.

The source explained that because an average Nigerian student could be very desperate, it was necessary for the officials to be extremely careful in handling the registration exercise.

He said: “Many of them have multiple thump print samples, totally different from previous thump prints. It is a problem, but we are determined to sought it out with them.

“It is like many of them allowed other people to thump print for them when they were doing their online registration.”

The official however assured that the issues would be sorted out carefully, so that the genuine candidates would complete their registration and commence the orientation programme in earnest.
