President Muhammudu Buhari has directed the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, to transfer relief items in various customs warehouses to designated officials for onward distribution to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

The Service Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeniyi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday.

According to Mr. Adeniyi, the Comptroller General has set up a national committee that would coordinate and manage the movement and the transfer of seized relief items to give effect to the President’s directive.

He said the relief items currently in government warehouses for distribution to the IDPs included goods that had been forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“It is important to stress that these items are only those that have been condemned properly in the competent court of law and have been forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“They include food items like rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti and essential items like soap, used clothing materials, mosquito nets, beddings and others,’’ he said.

Mr. Adeniyi said that members of the committee were drawn from Customs Service, Army, Air Force, Police, Immigration Service and the EFCC.

Good move, if these goods actually get to the IDP's then they'll have abundance to eat and drink, but I know my country people.. Some of the officials there at the IDP camps would see this as an avenue to make money for their own pockets...

Why cursing??? Do you know how and why these goods are seized in the first place? Secondly, isn't it better to give the goods to those poor people than for some people to take them and sell them off to citizens and enrich their pockets ? Do you know the sources of all the goods you buy in Nigeria? Some of them are from these same seized goods! You prefer those goods to perish in the government warehouse? Did you read this part “It is important to stress that these items are only those that have been condemned properly in the competent court of law and have been forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria'' Shame on you WINACE...! And I always thought you were one of the sensible ones on here, yet  you're never OBJECTIVE when it comes to some matters.. Hate Buhari all you want, but don't let that hate drive you into HATING others to the extent of CURSING...  SHAME..!

Shame on you for not understanding the truth that no place in the world does government use seized items to do charity. The goods were seized based on the fact that they were condenmed to be countrabanned therefore it is only wise to destroy them rather than to use them for charity to the pain of the original owners. These are people´s wealth, they suffer for it, you don´t even know the resons behind their seizure as nigeria officials work on trabalistic senses. Now many of the owners are broke and you are telling me that they will be shared among IDPs. Who created the IDPS in the first place? Is it not Buhari who wanted to give the past administration ungovernale state? Now innocent people are made to pay for it. I say SHAME on you and SHAME on Buhari your god.  ]

@Amibomatc I guess you didn't also read the article before commenting ''“It is important to stress that these items are only those that have been condemned properly in the competent court of law and have been forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria''

You say the goods are contraband, so what is the meaning of CONTRABAND in the first place (Contraband: things that are brought into or out of a country illegally) So tell me, why then shouldn't they be seized, in every country this happens, I don't understand why you guys are crying like babies simply because Buhari said it.

The article also states clearly ''“They include food items like rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti and essential items like soap, used clothing materials, mosquito nets, beddings and others,’’ So you'll rather throw this things away or have them burnt than to give to poor displaced people?

If you have been on this blog, the other day, there was a story here about some imported frozen chicken which was seized by the government and then buried, and some hungry people went and dug them up, washed them, sold them and ate them for the festive period. What do you say about that?

Whether Buhari made GEJ's time ungovernable or not, that's not the point of discussion here.. The point is, he's helping those displaced and hungry by giving them food and goods that where smuggled into the country ILLEGALLY and has been condemned properly by the courts...

You level of reasoning is very shallow.... I studied PORTS & SHIPPING and I know what goes on the ports.. You have not a single idea....! I wonder how much reach una pocket when GEJ was in power sef, after all the stealing.. You people just come here and talk without any reasoning....! That's DUMB...!!!
