PULL OVER
Soon as you notice that the temperature pointer is at the H area of the gauge, quickly pull over and immediately open the hood. This is to help disperse the heat in the engine radiator. Do not try to open the radiator lid as high pressured radiator steams may rush out and spill on on causing burns.
CONFIRM AND REFIL THE COOLANT
Most modern cars have a plastic reservoir of coolant with calibrations and markings connected to the top of the radiator. This enables you see if your coolant is low. Many have indication of the proper level of coolant. Check to see if the coolant is at or below that level and if lower than the required level, Add coolant or water to your reservoir to the required normal level. In most cases, you may be able add liquid to your reservoir even if the car is hot. However other cars don’t permit this so it advisable to check the owner’s manual to know whether to refill or wait for the engine to be cold before opening.http://www.automobileglobe.com/how-to-preventing-engine-overheating/
