The National Universities Commission has declared that any student who wants to study medicine will henceforth spend a minimum of 10 years in the university.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie disclosed this during a lecture he delivered at the maiden matriculation and inauguration of the University of Medical Science, Ondo, Ondo State.

He said the 2015 document for the training of medical students made provision for students to spend the first four years in studying basic sciences in university after which they would proceed to the medical school to spend another seven years.

“This development was imperative in order to enable the students mature psychologically for the profession”, he said.

Plus lots of strikes would make it 15 years in total.............. We waste lots of times on irrelevant courses in Uni like borrowed courses with no meaningful impacts.

From this pronouncent, it appears the Nigeria training of those wanting to go into the medical profession has been found lacking in quality? Whats the full story?

What will happen now, is that those who have the means will send their children or wards to foriegn countries where they can qualify to be doctors in half the time.

This will in due course start another BRAIN DRAIN in the country and a loss of FUNDS and TAXES being paid into the Nigeria economy.

Nigeria is already  losing millions because our rich citizens would rather send their kids to Ukraine, Greece, Poland, Czech ( countries I may add that are in worse circumstances than Nigeria) to study medicine. Thus Nigerians BOOST the economy of these foriegn economies whilst that of Nigeria CONTINUES to falter.

Well done to the "educated" elite that came up with this formula for success

Evidently the lack of COMMON SENSE remains our DOWNFALL.

I hope not!!!
