It was learnt that Idris , who stepped in last week after the mandatory retirement of former IG , Solomon Arase , had last Friday submitted a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari demanding the sack of about 30 senior police officers .
Most of them , apart from the Deputy Inspectors General of Police, who are seven in number, are said to be of the rank of AIG .
Idris was himself promoted from the rank of AIG to Acting IG .
However , the reason for his move might not be far - fetched, because although they are all course mates, they are his senior in terms of promotion .
It was learnt that attempts made by some AIGs to meet and greet Idris was said to have proven abortive as they were allegedly prevented from doing so by his security detail .
A source told New Telegraph : “ There is serious tension at the Police Headquarters in Abuja . We have heard that the new acting IG wants to retire both his seniors and course mates.
“ On Friday, he wrote to the presidency, through the Chief of Staff , Abba Kyari , and it was approved and forwarded to the desk of the President for final approval. ”
