This was the shocking scene in South Africa's parliament as a violent brawl erupted between MPs during President Jacob Zuma's speech. The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema, shouted at Zuma as he attempted to deliver his State of the Nation annual address. Other members of the party were forcibly removed with one man being hauled from the chamber UPSIDE DOWN.
"Sitting in front of us here is a man who is incorrigible, an incorrigible man. Rotten to the core. And that has been found by the constitutional court," Malema said pointing at Zuma, who stopped reading his speech and took his seat as the house descended into a shouting match. The 74-year-old leader started speaking, then sat down as members of the far-left party kept up the questions for about an hour.
The brawl began when EFF members were being forcibly removed from the chamber by security guards. Amid the turmoil, the main opposition Democratic Alliance party leader Mmusi Maimane also walked out of parliament, saying Zuma was unqualified to hold office, questioning the deployment of soldiers in parliament.
