At least eight people have died and 28 others have been injured in a stampede at a public hall in Zambia's capital, Lusaka, where a church was distributing food, police say. Five died on the spot while the others succumbed to injuries as they were being rushed to the hospital.
Police say the victims were among 35,000 people who had gathered at the Olympic Youth Development Centre in the capital after a call to attend a prayer event and get free food.
