@Spekay, yes a few universities are trying 2 solve their power issues but they will still need d goverment support cos if they try 2 generate d income within it will mean increasing school fees, VAT on their properties & wat have u & dis will in turn affect nigerians. It all falls down to our so called leaders.
Thank you
I am simply of the opinion that whatever prototype of any invention that universities start with on a small scale could be expanded at a higher level for use by the federal might. Governments come and go in Nigeria but i know some governments in recent past have been sympathetic to the cause of education in the universities and research activities . Even the present day government with the lawmakers can still be made to see reason to set our priorities right if the case is well presented . <imho>
The point am making is that so much money is being spent <wasted?> on the universities but the government isn't even getting the returns in its fullest form. One can appreciate the military dictatorship where you don't have a chance to influence decisions but now we have a civilian government . Universities are still the last port of call when it comes to knowledge and erudition and they have a vast amount of student power behind them so more often than not they win anyway
I would like to believe that at least 90% of those lawmakers must have at one time or another passed through a university many of them must have been student union members at one level or another so they should be able to understand where the requests are coming from if any .
Of course i stand to be corrected
Ok a university don experienced enough to teach PhD students is here lamenting the use of torchlight to score students' thesis in the midst of incessant power failure . what do u expect of a the common market woman selling tomatoes and vegetables at Lagos Tejuosho market or a remote village of sokoto state . definitely there is a difference ! I just believe universities and their dons could do a bit better
