Men of the Osun State Police Command have nabbed a suspected fraudster, simply identified as Femi Agboola for allegedly defrauding an American a sum of 80,000 dollars, equivalent to N28m.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye who addressed newsmen in Osogbo noted that the suspect was said to have posed as a woman to defraud the unsuspecting victim on a dating site on the internet.

Adeoye said the victim who was looking for a serious relationship was however scammed by the suspect to the tune of 80,000 dollars.

He said when the suspect was apprehended, he confessed to the allegation but however, denied collecting 80,000 dollars from the victim. He said he actually collected a sum of 43,000 dollars.

The suspect who couldn’t state the reason he became an internet fraudster, told newsmen that he started the business of internet fraud in 2015 and that he didn’t regret his actions.

He however stated that if he was able to get himself out of the current trouble, he would do away with the business.

The Commissioner of Police said Femi was arrested on tip off and urged the general public to see the police as their friend and always give useful information that could help in ridding the society of crimes.

He decried the rate at which young people now engage in internet fraud and noting that it shows the youths are not ready to work again.

The CP also explained that because of the increased rate of cultism in the state, the Police has organized an Anti-Cultism Special Squad with the aim of reducing spate of cultism.

Also, the command paraded a gang of three armed robbers led by 23 year old Shefiu Olayinka who specializes in buying stolen motorcycles and re-sell them. Twelve motorcycles were recovered from the gang.

Besides, five suspects who had been on the wanted list of the police were also paraded. The suspects, the CP had been terrorizing the people of Ede and its environs over cases relating to kidnapping and murders.

The CP said that the suspects would be arraigned before the court immediately investigatoions are concluded on the cases.
