As the commercial city of Lagos awaits the arraignment of billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumebi Onwuamadike popularly known as Evans, this Wednesday morning, Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police has beefed up security within and outside the Ikeja High Court environment. As at 7.30am, not less than 30 heavily armed mobile policemen were spotted marching into the court compound. Others were strategically positioned outside the court premises, even those on horseback.
According to our police source, "it was necessary to avoid a possible attack by suspected gang members who could attempt to release him.”
Apart from possible attack by gang members, family and friends of victims are threatening to kill Evans before he steps into the court. They are scared that the court might set Evans free.
"He is a high profile suspect and the world is watching. We want to hand him over to the court who will decide his fate,” the police source stated. On the heavy presence of police at the court Wednesday, the Lagos command spokesman ASP Cole Olarinde said that it was necessary to avoid any possible breakdown of law and order.
This is a developing story, we'll be bringing you more details later...
