The General Manager of Warri Wolves Football Club, Mr. Tony Rafua, has allegedly assaulted a Sports journalist with RayPower FM, Clarkson Ogo for reporting the Week 34 Game of the Nigerian National League, NNL where Warri Wolves defeated Bayelsa United 1-0, DAILY POST is reporting.
Tony Rafua, a former Chairman of Delta Force who was in the pitch while the match was ongoing left and climbed up to the media stand and slapped the journalist three times after he was informed of a photo report online showing him on the technical line, instructing players with a caption, ” Is the Wolves General Manager now the Coach?”
Tony Rafua also ordered thugs to throw the Sports journalist out of the stadium, boasting that nobody, not even the league body can do anything to him,” That is what we face in our away games.”
Rafua further threatened to ban the sports journalist from covering all Warri Wolves games, even as it took the intervention of his fellow colleagues, soccer fans and Chairmen of some clubs to stop him.
The Delta State Council Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ,Comrade Michael Ikeogwu stated that the Union is still investigating and if the claims of Clarkson Ogo is true, the NUJ will not tolerate any attacks on its members, stressing that journalists should be protected and allowed to do their jobs freely.
