Venezuela boss Rafael Dudamel has claimed “several women” were sent to distract his players ahead of Wednesday’s crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier against Paraguay. The South American qualifiers came to a dramatic end with Argentina managing to progress and Chile missing out. Paraguay still had a chance to qualify going into their last tie against bottom of the table Venezuela – and seemingly did all they could to ensure victory. Speaking in his post-match conference following the clash, Dudamel said: “There were several women visits last night at the hotel but football players have changed. “We were not surprised by these female visits, I do not know who sent them (the women). These are old strategies.”
La Vinotinto won the qualifier 1-0 thanks to an 84th minute goal from Yangel Herrera. Had Paraguay won the tie they would have sealed a qualifying spot instead of Peru.
