Man Utd team news vs Benfica arrives early as Jose Mourinho's squad flies to Portugal for the Champions League fixture.

Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo were part of Manchester United's travelling squad for the Champions League fixture against Benfica.

The defensive pair flew out to Lisbon with the rest of Jose Mourinho's squad on Monday afternoon though it would be a long-shot for either to feature against the Portuguese side.

Shaw made the trip after playing 90 minutes for the reserves against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

The England international has only featured once for the first team this season, in the Carabao Cup fixture against Burton Albion, but has been building up his fitness following injury against Swansea at the end of last term.

Rojo suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury against Anderlecht and is still waiting for his first minutes of the 2017/18 campaign.

However, Mourinho will still be without midfield stalwarts Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, who remain on the sidelines.

The United manager was accused of defensive tactics against Liverpool in the Anfield stalemate, but cited the missing players as a key reason for the second half display - especially after Nemanja Matic's exertions over the international break.

Mourinho told the press: "I am just saying as a coach you are on the bench and you try to anticipate things and I have no midfielder not to do what I want to do so many times which is to be with three strong midfielders and give more freedom to my all three attacking players. I couldn't do that.

"No Fellaini, no Carrick, No Pogba, nothing, nothing at all. And I thought to change the direction of the game was to bring players with one against one, bring players with speed and maybe - and that's what I told the players at half-time - maybe they are going to change, but they didn't.

"In the second half Matic tired and I had no solutions on the bench. I tried with my substitutions to make us more dynamic in attack, but in reality we lost power and energy and control in midfield."

Eric Bailly was not spotted as part of the group after injuring his groin on international duty last week.
