It was gathered that the troops are currently of the 19 Battalion of the Nigerian Army deployed for "Operation Delta Safe." To their credit, the troops recently recovered a variety of arms and ammunition from a soldier and suspected militants. Some of the weapons were discovered on a farm in Okitipupa, Ondo state, by hired laborers. The farm according to the report is owned by a soldier, Warrant Officer Isaiah Oladoye (93/NA/371331). The weapons, on discovery and receipt, were handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Okitipupa, Express Omogui. Also, discovered on the farm was an AK 47 assault rifle, with an AK 47 magazine and 29 7.62 ammunition. Similarly, troops of the battalion participating in Operation Crocodile Smile in Koko, Warri north local government area, arrested two suspects with two single barrel guns at Ajalugbeti. Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Abayomi Olonisakin, has vowed that groups associated with violent agitations in the country will be prosecuted by the Nigerian Armed Forces. Olonisakin gave the warning on Saturday, November 11, during the induction of 20 sophisticated gunboats newly acquired by the Nigerian Navy at the Warri Naval Base, Warri, Delta state. “There have been continued militarization of the Niger Delta and the proliferation of weapons among non-state groups. “This unsavoury state of affairs has ominously ended up in a sharp increase in threat level and deepening in conditions inimical to security,” he lamented.
