Photos of a school teacher identified as Rita Odilinye who was killed last week for flogging a 14-year-old student for not sweeping her class at Starlight secondary school, Ogidi, Anambra state have emerged.
 
It was gathered that the teacher died after the student’s mother came with other relatives who attacked Rita hitting her head with a big stick which made her lose consciousness after collapsing on the floor. She was confirmed dead at the hospital by a doctor.

The student and her mother alongside other relatives are being held in police custody over the sad incident. A condonlence register has been opened in her honour.

And it’s time teachers and CHILDREN are taught about administering FIRST AID like CPR to someone who has a loss of consciousness. We have too many deaths in Nigeria that can be avoided.

Just look how they are MANHANDLING her body in the photograph.
We have NO RESPECT when we are ALIVE. And NO RESPECT when we are DEAD.

The title of this post is misleading. The Teacher did not die as a result of flogging the student but as a result of the beating she received from the Mother and relatives of the recalcitrant student. Unless you read the story, you may conclude that the Teacher mysteriously for flogging the student. May her gentle soul rest in peace, while we await the pronouncement of the courts on the matter.

The Principal of her school should be invited for questioning too. After the gruesome murder, she allowed her lifeless body to be grossly abused in the name of taking her corpse to the the hospital by touts. Does it mean that there was no other teachers in that school to take care of their own? I see what took place in that picture as further act of subjecting the dead to degrading and inhuman treatment and by extension, tacit approval of the Principal to the actions of her attackers. God is watching!
