The suspect was alleged to have committed the act late last month by putting the baby in a sack and dumping her in a nearby bush at Isale Ejigbo area, Oko, Oyo State.
Her cousin (names withheld), had reported the case at Iresaadu Police Station, from where police detectives swung into action by visiting the scene and recovering the corpse of the baby.
The remains had since been deposited at the state hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the case had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation.
Similarly, a 26-year-old man, Olayide Ojo, has reportedly shot himself with a gun while trying to pluck mango.
The late Ojo, whose case was reported at Jobele Police Station by his father, Mr Abiodun Ojo, was met in the pool of his own blood at Ogungbe farm, via Ilora.
He was subsequently rushed to a private hospital in Oyo where he later died.
The corpse has since been moved to General Hospital, Oyo, for autopsy while detectives have visited the scene and have recovered the Dane gun.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, DSP Olabisi Okuwobi, confirmed both cases, saying investigations were still in progress.
