A 28-year-old woman, Oluchi Mba, residing in Ogidi, Idemili  North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has allegedly sold her seven-day-old baby boy for N350,000. We learned on Tuesday that Mba took the decision in a bid to raise money to celebrate this year’s Chrismas, which is three months away.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, told us on Tuesday that the woman was boasting about how she would have a fun-filled Christmas this year before she was arrested.
Quote
“We were together one Sunday and she was boasting about how she would celebrate this year’s Christmas in grand style.
“I told her that it was too early to plan for Christmas now, but she kept on boasting and saying she would want to have fun during the season. I didn’t know she was planning to sell her own child. This is terrible,”
the source stated.

Mba reportedly sold the baby to a 55-year-old, Edith Obiakor, of Akudo Street in Nkpor. Obiakor, it was gathered, resold the baby to her in-law, one Vitus Aniunoh, 50, of Patterson Street, Fegge in Onitsha for N650,000. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

He said the suspects had been arrested, adding that the baby had been recovered.
Quote
“Following intelligence report, police detectives attached to Ogidi division arrested one Oluchi Mba,  aged 28, of Ikenga in Ogidi.

“The suspect confessed to have sold her seven-day-old baby, which she earlier claimed was stillborn, to one Edith Obiakor, aged 55, of Akudo Street in Nkpor for the sum of N350,000, paid into her account.”

Mohammed said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
