The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a container full with imported soup (stew) and some other edible items worth N27, 960,000 from China, following a credible intelligence gathering.

The imported stew which was cleared in one of the ports in Lagos was intercepted by the Comptroller-General of Customs Strike Force team based on intelligence provided by the intelligence unit of the NCS. It was further gathered that other items which had a semblance of mushrooms were already deteriorating in the container and could pose a serious danger to human health when consumed.

Deputy Comptroller and National Coordinator, Comptroller General Strike Force, Abdullahi Kirawa, who spoke to newsmen after the interception, lamented over the deterioration in the system which has left Nigerians importing stew from other countries. According to him, the unidentified ingredients written in Chinese can lead to serious health challenges.

“Nigerians are hard-working people known for our marvellous delicacies. How can someone import stew into the country? The stew was carefully conceived inside the container.
I will advise that Nigerians should ignore egocentrism and embrace ethnocentrism. .
Our quest for foreign goods and items must be discouraged and we must work hard to embrace and patronise homemade goods, including our delicious stew that are prepared from our homes and not engages in this type of business. .

This type of soup posed dangers to public health, to the economy and of course, the employment of our teeming youths. If stew would be imported, then what else are we going to do? So this is something we need to reflect on.”

Stop Chinese from importing food and food items. Is it so hard? Letting china keep importing food items serious disease is on the way to naija. No two ways. And that project buhari signed should be cancelled, the loan he wants to take from China should be cancelled. China is a another America only that they don't  simply bomb other countries.. but the internal damages they cause is overwhelming. They grant loans you can't pay back then they start owning your resources gradually. Within few weeks how many contaminated food has been seized coming in from China? How about the ones they let past due to bribe? May Sense fall on those in top positions.
