The police on Tuesday arraigned a 43-year-old man, Oluyomi Morakinyo, in a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, over alleged inability to pay N331,600 accumulated hotel accommodation bills. The prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Ejeh, said the defendant, who resides at Mararaba, Nasarawa State, is facing a count charge of cheating. Ejeh told the court that one Emmanuel Ifeadi of Nelsino Hotel, Mararaba, reported the matter at ‘A’ Division, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, on Oct. 3. “The complainant alleged that the defendant lodged in the above-mentioned hotel with accumulated bills of NN377,100. “The defendant promised to offset the bills, but failed, but rather issued a post-dated cheque of N331,600 that bounced in the process of cashing it,” Ejeh said. The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 322 of the Penal Code. The defendant pleaded not guilty, while the judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Oct. 29, for hearing.
