With the 2012 Nations Cup qualifiers kicking off in September, the Liberia Football Association is desperate for a big-name coach to steer the Lone Stars to a third-time appearance at the continental showpiece in Gabon.
LFA spokesman Henry Flomo confirmed on Monday that Siasia was one of the five coaches that would be interviewed online for the Lone Stars job this week.
Others are Jose Luciano Reis Silva (Brazilian), Roberto Landi (Italian), Beratalan Bicskei (Hungarian) and Angel Alonso (Spanish).
Flomo said the successful coach would be announced next week
Our correspondent learnt that Siasia is highly respected – following his achievements as a player and coach – in the West African country and that could influence the decision to give him the job.
According to liberiasoccer.com, the authorities regard the former Super Eagles striker as the man needed to build a Liberian team capable of rubbing shoulder with top teams on the continent.
The Lone Stars have not had a substantive coach since German Antone Hey called it quits with the job in March 2009 for Kenya.
