Why Elections Fail In Nigeria

The first time I voted in a real election was May 2007 somewhere in North West England. Having arrived from Nigeria months earlier, I was more than determined to have my voice heard through my votes. I was very excited when I learned as a commonwealth citizen I had the same voting rights as UK citizens. It was a pleasant surprise. I also found out a few more pleasant surprises. The UK allowed people like me from commonwealth countries to compete to be in their armed forces if I have the required skills, in fact I had the opportunity to be considered for any position I was qualified for so far it falls within the terms of my visa in their country. I also had the same access to quality healthcare as their citizens so long as I had the right to live and work legally in their country for more than 6 months. While I marvelled at these things, I felt so sad that in my own country, people with the right skills and qualifications are denied free access to, and rarely considered for positions they merit. I felt really sad that while these highly skilled, very capable Nigerians are schemed out and left to rot in obscurity, stray wolves in human flesh, connected to a few important individuals at the top, eventually get these positions. COLLECT MONEY FROM POLITICIAN AND DONT VOTE THEM TO OFFICES. THAT WAY NIGERIANS WILL BE FREE OF BIGOTS
