The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) on Wednesday sealed off six firms over alleged tax evasion amounting to N241.4 million.
Mr Jide Sosan, leader of the enforcement team, alleged that the companies refused to remit their tax liabilities to the coffers of the state government.
Sosan said that the companies’ outstanding taxes covered 2004 to 2008.
He said that the firms refused to remit their taxes in spite of the several notices sent to them.
He said that it had been observed that some tax defaulters were in the habit of breaking government seals, warning them to desist from such acts.
“It is a criminal offence to break government seal, henceforth, anybody caught will face the law.
“Several notices, correspondence and invitations have been duly served to intimate  them of their tax liabilities before embarking on the sealing off of their offices, but they refused to comply,’’ he said.
Sosan, however, commended the high level of tax compliance among corporate organisations, attributing it to the high level of enlightenment campaigns by the state government.
