A 23-year-old woman, who gave her identity as Pelumi Ogunbadejo, has abandoned her newly delivered baby at a private hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun State and disappeared into thin air. She is said to have claimed to be resident of Akute, in Ifo Local Government area of the state while on admission.

A hospital source said the woman was brought into Ademuyiwa Maternity Home, Sokori area in Abeokuta by a samaritan, who saw her in labour besides his building. She was subsequently admitted on August 22, 2010.

She had a successful delivery of a baby boy, the same day, and had proper medical attention free of charge; having assured the hospital authorities that her husband, resident in Lagos, had been contacted and is coming to offset the bill before the discharge.

Her medical report reads: ‘unbooked patient came to the hospital with complaint of labour pain. Virgina examination was done, she was fully dilated. Normal delivery at 10.30am of a male life baby on August 22, 2010 with the aid of strong contraction.’

Sneaked out

However, the delivery took a dramatic turn on the third day, which was Tuesday, when at about 5.30am, the mother sneaked out from the hospital on the pretext of going to fetch water from a public tap beside the hospital. To the amazement of the hospital authority and other in-patients, that was the last they saw about the lady.

The Matron of the hospital, Esther Ademuyiwa expressed shock over the development. As at the time of NEXT’s visit to the hospital, the authority was preparing to file a report at the police station.

“A man who identified himself as Oshungboye brought the pregnant lady into the hospital, claiming that he saw her in labour pain beside his house, so we have no choice than to attend to her immediately and admitted her,” Mrs Ademuyiwa said.

“The lady told us that she resides in Akute and just suddenly had labour pain, that her husband would later come. So, with all these claims, we attended to her.” The matron said the baby is in perfect condition of health.

The baby mouth remind me of my mother. Same way she set her mouth lol Anyway I wish I was nearby then I would take the baby. Some parents who are deserving will take him. The man is the father of the child and both of them planned the lies. Now she done this sin abandoning her baby. The father has his family to think about and don't want the problems. When she is marry and want a child she will never have any because she is now a barren because of this child. She better ask for forgiveness but there is no sin without consequences. Sad sad case indeed.

Well, we thank God. As far as i'm concerned she did her best. she's better than those ones that throws theirs into pit toilet because they don't want it. At least someone else who needs the baby can pick him up from there.

Thanks be to the management of the private hospital, and I pray that they should not relent on their effort to help other people next time.

ok muthaphyukers mothers love their kids.....did it occur to any of you that she abandoned the child cos that was wat might have been best for the child?  i feel she could not cater for the childs needs and she let the child go because she put fate in humanity hoping a kind heart who can afford to will care for the child....dont pretend u dont know nigeria is a tough place (financially)....4 u religious folk out there its kinda like moses when his mum 'abandoned' him in the nile cos it was unsafe to keep him

Grin Grin Moses case has nothing to do with money and immaturity. Pharaoh was killing off the Sons of the Israelities because of wickedness so please my dear don't compare one with another. Don't forget that God does things for His purpose and what happen to Moses had to happen because there have to be a deliverer for the children of Israel and MOSES was chose before birth. Did you also noticed that God took all of their First Born because of what they did to those children. There is no Sins without consequences.

What these parents done was wrong in the sight of God. If this hospital always help persons who comes in and pay at a later date then you know that this is going to stop. Satan always put his hands where goodness is.

yeap 'moses' (if he existed) had nothing to do with this....its an analogy......not to rain on ur religious parade here but it is not a 'sin' to take a seemingly cruel action in the best interest of the kid....i'm sorry i cant seem to grasp ur point of view cos it seems to be have a religious tilt to it....i am not a Christian or Muslim or etc so i'm going to have a hard time understanding a religious point of view...i take whatever option favours the child....besides its not the girls fault she cant afford health care.....the govt is supposed to provide it....
