A 34-year old man Victor Bassey, from Akwa Ibom state was found dead in his one room apartment at 4, Olatunde street Bajulaiye in Somolu Local Government area of Lagos State on Friday. According to eye witness account, the three- year old son of Bassey, Jeremiah alerted the co- tenants about the unusual position of his father. Bassey an okada rider attached to the Palm Grove unit in Somolu was said to have returned home around 6.30 pm and sent his son on errand to buy an item and before the arrival of the boy, he had already hanged himself. Reasons for his action could not be ascertained but a reliable source said Bassey’s second marriage recently hit the rock when his wife popularly called Mama J. packed out of her matrimonial home four days before the incident . Speaking with P.M NEWS,one of the neighbours does not want his name mentioned said that Mama J was constantly having problems with her husband because of strange night calls she was receiving every day. He opined that the fights might be the reason he hanged himself. It was learnt that the body remained dangling until a community leader, the Bashorun of Bajulaye,Chief Bamidele called in the Police from Alade Division Shomolu before rituals were performed to bring down the hanged corpse. According to an elderly man the rituals were performed to wage away subsequent deaths in the community. His remains was later conveyed to the mortuary in a Lagos painted bus,XM 902 GGE to at about 1.00 pm on Saturday.
