Gyan powered Ghana to the final of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations with three goals and lost 1–0 to Egypt in Angola.
He replicated his striking form by netting three times in Ghana’s quarterfinal feat at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
The 24-year-old rattled in 13 goals for French Ligue 1 side, Rennes, before moving to English side, Sunderland as a record signing.
Gyan hopes to become the fourth Ghanaian after Abedi Pele, Abdul Razak and Ibrahim Sunday to win the African player gong.
“I think this year, I have been able to prove myself in African Cup, club side and everything, but I’m not CAF. I think I did my best, but they are going to decide. I’m okay with whatever happens,” Gyan said in an interview with a local radio station.
CAF has yet to release a list of nominees for this year’s African Footballer of the Year award.
