Google has unveiled its question and answer product known as ‘Baraza‘ across Africa.

The firm, in a statement on Monday, said Internet users in Nigeria could now turn to each other for expert advice on almost any topic, using Google Baraza.

Baraza, which means ‘taskforce‘ or ‘council‘ in Swahili, is a newly introduced question and answer service that will also be integrated into search results on Google search.

According to Google, experts in any field (food, business, tourism, fashion and more), can log on and start providing advice.

”Users can create profiles, send messages, follow others, rate answers and receive points for asking and answering,” it said.

Officer, Google Nigeria, Mrs. Lola Masha, was quoted as saying, ”In our effort to understand the needs of the market, we found out that people across Africa ask Google numerous questions every day.

”However, many of these remain unanswered due to the lack of local content online. We recognise that users are the best at answering each others‘ questions within a community and Baraza is the perfect way to be able to share and contribute information.”

The company said the platform would provide answers for questions like, ”What‘s the best hotel with beach access in Lagos, Nigeria? How do you submit a Nollywood script? Where are the best vegetable markets in Abuja, among others?”

Local domains of ‘Baraza‘ would be made available in South Africa, Cameroon, Uganda, Senegal, Nigeria, Kenya, Ivory Coast and 25 other countries across Africa, it added.
