The coalition group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State which is opposed to the second ambition of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala has hinted on the possibility of the group moving to another political party.

According to the group, the decision to move to another political party was anchored “on the lack of political will on the party’s national headquarters to implement the recommendations of the Ike Nwachukwu-led Reconciliation Committee, concluded since 2009.”

Both the leader of the coalition group, Senator Lekan Balogun and the former governor of the state, Rashidi Ladoja, while speaking with journalists in Ibadan at different fora, maintained that until the party’s national secretariat did the right thing by removing the illegal executive as presently constituted in the state and also keep to the rule of law by abiding with the recommendations of the Ike Nwachukwu Committee, peace would continue to elude the ruling PDP in Oyo State.

According to Balogun: “The truth of the matter is that the PDP national headquarters is guilty. They have been wobbling in the past three years. They would meet us , we’ll present our case, the other group ‘ll present their own, they would give impression that we are right and the other group is wrong. But they won’t announce to the world their verdict. They are guilty of wobbling. I have got to a point where I would ask myself if this party deserves my membership. If you belong to a political party, you must be able to show evidence of obedience to the Rule of Law.”

“But we have not left PDP, we may leave and we may not leave but the reality at the moment is that we are only talking with like minds in other parties, particularly the ACN.If they move fast enough they will rescue the party in Oyo, if they don’t, we will take our stake away from the PDP. If they continue to manifest their disrespect for the rule of law, we will take our stake away from that kind of party.”

For the former Ladoja, he said the failure of the party national headquarters to implement the Ike Nwachukwu led- committee report was the fear of stepping on the toes of the party’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, which according to him had been to the detriment of the party in the South- west zone and wondering why national headquarters that set up the committee, in the first instance as a way of resolving the crisis within Oyo State chapter had failed to implement the report of the committee it set up.
