The accident occurred when an Opel Astra car coming from Lagos rammed into a truck laden with rice. An eyewitness told THE PUNCH that the driver lost control of the car and rammed into the truck from the rear around 8.37am, about 40 metres away from the Odogbolu bridge.
All the occupants of the car with registration number Ogun AL 532 JDB died on the spot. Officials of the Ogun State Traffic Control Unit and the Federal Road Safety Commission rushed to the scene for rescue operations.
The Ijebu Sector Commander of TRACE, Mr. Ajibade Adekunle, told our correspondent that the accident was caused by over-speeding.
Adekunle said, “The driver of the Opel was driving at top speed. Due to poor visibility, he rammed into the tanker.”
Adekunle said the corpse of the driver was deposited at the morgue of the State General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode while those of the passengers were taken to the morgue of Rona Hospital, also in Ijebu-Ode.
