TWO students of the Institute of Management and Technology, Usen, Edo State, were, on Tuesday, reported dead when a vehicle ran into a barricade mounted on the Benin–Ore road by the students, who were protesting the postponement of their terminal examination over non-payment of their lecturers’ salary by the state government.

Besides, another student of the institute was said to have sustained serious injuries and had been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

The death came about 24 hours after similar protest by students of College of Education, Igueben, during which the protesting students allegedly seized an AK 47 riffle from a policeman.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that a Benin-bound ash coloured Kia vehicle, which registration number could not be ascertained, was stopped by the protesting students, but the driver of the vehicle, in a bid to force his way, ran into some of the students, killing two and injuring another in the process.

The driver was said to have fled into the bush immediately after the accident, just as the angry students were said to have destroyed the vehicle.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Peter Ogboi, who confirmed the protest, said he was not aware of any accident leading to the death of any student.

lack of security and no respect of law can lead to this misfortune. May their souls rest in perfect peace.
