The former Newcastle and Inter attacker has made the move back to England to spend more time with his family.
Rubin Kazan head coach Kurban Berdiyev said on the club's official website: “His child was born and he asked to let him go to England because Obafemi wants to be closer to his family.”
The 26-year-old has made only 12 appearances for Rubin since joining in 2010, scoring two goals in the process.
Acting Birmingham chairman Peter Pannu has openly criticised manager Alex McLeish’s transfers so far, saying they have so far "not substantially improved" the squad.
Birmingham were in the market for Tottenham’s Robbie Keane earlier in the transfer window, but now McLeish has opted for Martins.
