The Federal Government yesterday banned the use of tinted cars with effect from next Monday
The Minister of Police Affairs Humphrey Abah, told reporters in Abuja that all existing permits for tinted car glasses have been revoked.
The security agencies nationwide will begin implementation of the directive on Monday, he said.
He said only the President, Vice-President, Senate President and his deputy, House of Representatives Speaker and his deputy, Senate Leader, House Leader, Governors and their deputies are exempted.
Although the law allows importers of tinted cars to change them within 14 days after being cleared from the ports, the Minister said factory tinted cars would not be affected by the ban.
He said the measure was part of measures to ensure adequate security ahead of the April elections.
He said: “Chapter M21 Laws of the Federal Government of Nigeria Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act is still in operation and it is this law that we want to begin to enforce. We want to enforce this law strictly without sentiments.
“So, I want to use this opportunity to announce to all Nigerians that beginning from Monday, February 28 of this year, the use of tinted glass by all classes of our citizens remains prohibited
