The motivation behind this post is this statement by FLYMAMA:

'And besides, u say dat u r a friend of ur kids, dat is where a lot of white ppl make mistakes"

Now I ask, what is wrong with being friends with your kids?

Does being friends spoil your kids?

Arent there ways parents can be friends with their kids and yet very strict?

I don't think theirs anything wrong here, just let them kno their boundary and that's it.

Of course first friends kids make are their parents.. but at the same time... parents should be strict in vital things that kids should know and learn, in other to train them well and bring them up the way they want.

But some parents are terror.............when they are away their kids are free, but immediately they come back, the kids run into corners..........is such a home right?

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING FRIENDS WITH YOUR KIDS BUT THERE SHOULD BE CLEAR CUT OF DISCIPLINE. IT IS GOOD TO SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH KIDS AND ALSO A TIME TO BE STRICT WHEN THE NEEDS ARISE THOUGH U CAN MARK OUT A TIME TABLE FOR IT. A TIME FOR THE KIDS TO PLAY ALONE, A TIME TO PLAY WITH DADDY OR MUMMY OR BOTH IF IT IS CONVENIENT. A TIME TO STUDY WITH THEM AT HOME, A TIME TO EAT WITH THE KIDS, A TIME TO PRAY FOR THEM AND A TIME FOR THE KIDS TO SLEEP.

I'm my kids close friends.....infact, I call my son "my love", "my daddy" etc and I have pet names for the girls.
This doesn't mean I don't discipline especially where morals and education are concerned.
