For the first time in its history, the University of Jos, has produced seven first class graduates. They are part of the 3,850 students that will be conferred with degrees at the university’s convocation ceremony on Saturday.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Sonni Tyoden, who said this on Thursday at a pre convocation briefing, said that in addition, 33 students would be awarded certificates, 76 diploma, 233 master’s degree and 41 PhD respectively.

Among the PhD graduands, according to the Vice Chancellor, is the governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam, who is going to be awarded a PhD in Law.

Tyoden said that the University would also give out two honorary degrees to the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Malam Lamido Sanusi, and Chairman of Zinox Technologies Limited, Mr. Leo Ekeh.

According to him, Sanusi will be awarded a honorary Doctor of Law while Ekeh would be awarded a honorary Doctor of Science degree.

The Vice Chancellor further added that security measures had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free convocation, stressing that the school had been liaising effectively with appropriate security agencies.
