INEC Presiding Officer Arrested

The National Assembly Election was peaceful through Kebbi State except in Koko Besse Local Government where the presiding officer was caught with a ballot box and papers assisting one of the parties.
The presiding officer Aliyu Kalala was caught at Damba Lakoh Ward stuffing the ballot papers in the ballot box attached to him.
He was immediately arrested and taken to Birnin Kebbi, where he is presently being detained.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner ,Alhaji Kabiru Ahmed, who confirmed the arrest to newsmen  Saturday, threatened that any of the ad-hoc staff caught in election malpractices will be prosecuted.
The turnout was impressive in all the places visited by our correspondent as women trooped out as early as 6:00am to queue in their polling units.
Among places visited included Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Argungu, Aliero, Jega, Maiyama and Gwandu.
The acting National Chairman of the Ruling People’ Democratic Party, Dr. Bello Haliru, who voted at Nasarawa ward in Birnin Kebbi was impressed by the large turn out and early arrival of INEC ad-hoc Staff.
He commended INEC for improving over the last week cancelled election which was as a result of logistic problems among other things.
“I am impressed with what I have seen, apart from the fact that the election is peaceful, there was a large turnout of people especially women”.
He said the way and manner INEC conducted Saturday’s election, has confirmed that the Commission can still deliver free, fair and credible elections to Nigeria .
Other party leaders who exercise their rights in the state included Governor Saidu Dakingari, former governor and Congress for Progressive Change leader, Senator Adamu Aliero, the CPC governorship candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Mallam, the Action Congress for Nigeria , Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu, Senator Atiku Bagudu, Senator Umar Tafida and Senator Tanko Ayuba ,  among others
