What we are experiencing is called resource-curse...a situation where a natural resource which would have been a blessing is turned into a source of worry and problems, even death......oil and other resources are blessings.....what we lack is the leadership to translate these enormous blessings into development... God heal Nigeria

I need some oil to prepare my meal biko, Oil is highly vital, what matters is the cook, how the cook use the oil... Our cookers don't know the vitality in the oil they're wasting. We need good cookers that will value our precious Oil.

Oil is supposed to be a blessing but it is a curse for Nigeria..........and it is becos of this oil that Nigeria is still under developed, becos if oil hadnt come, each region would strive hard to develop

an element of truth from what you said especially the highlighted words in red.there is an internal battle for resource control especially this petroleum in nigeria which is the world FASTEST selling commodity.but the world most flourishing resource for any nation to achieve development is agriculture, medical and advance technology.they still generate more money for any nation than this petroleum but the only problem is that these sectors are a bit slow while oil is fast in terms of income generating.

japan, was formerly recognised in the field of agriculture and fishery in the past century and they later found out that they need more to keep up with their growing population and country's demand since they have little or no natural resources they resorted to technology and today i can bet you to say they are one of the most technologically advanced nation in the world.among the top 3.if not for the japanese technology their country would have been like cambodia and other impoverished nation in the region.

singapore, malaysia and others have benefitted from a vast array of mixed economy these two countries gained independence around the time we got ours as well.they have theirs 1963 if i can still remember correctly while ours was 1960 we are even their elder.but yet, they have forged ahead and ranked among the developed world.i dont quite see how many petroleum or other natural resources that these nations have that have made them forge ahead and we are still left in the jungle.(why wont they call us third world its not their fault we brought that name and shame upon ourselves).

during the time of the industrial revolutions europe we can see what the europeans demonstrated that have made majority if not all of them what they are today.many countries in europe have limited resources and others hadly have one.
a country like the netherlands,in europe is the world 3 largest agricultural exporter behind usa and france.the netherlands annual profit from agriculture totals about 55billion dollars or more yearly.which is approximately 7.755 trillion naira yearly in the nigerian currency i.e if we peg the dollar at 150.nigeria in terms of land size/mass,area covered per square kilometres should be nearly 8times larger than the netherlands, nigeria is about  total area: 356,667 sq mi (923,768 sq km),while netherland is about 41,526 sq km (16,033 sq mi)now tell me how on earth is a country like netherland able to become the world third largest agricultural exporting economy given the fact that if the entire nation of netherland is placed 8times together will give you the entire state of nigeria......??thailand has been and is still the world largest rice exporting nation earning several billions of dollars annually from rice export alone.

                                      BACK TO NIGERIA
according to nnpc nigeria produces 2.4 million barrels of crude oil per day as a current figure but as per say, lets peg a barrel of oil to be 60 dollars(in OPEC) we will have 2.4x60=124million dollars that nigeria earn per day from oil in 30days which is in a month nigeria will have about 124x30=3.720billion dollars in a month now on annual basis nigeria will have 3.720x12months=44.64billion dollars which is a little more than 6trillion naira, now from what netherland make alone from her agricultural sector which is 55billion dollars annually surpasses nigeria's oil sector is this not ridiculous...? what about the netherlands manufacturing sectors and others....?nigeria was formally the world largest exporter of cocoa, groundnut, cassava but today we are no were to be found among the top exporting nations we value oil so much that we think oil is what we can use to survive.
LETS CRACK OUR BRAIN HERE PLEASE
dont you think if nigeria invest heavily on agriculture given the fact that we have good vegetation and topography as well as alluvial, vast array and fertile land in our country with at lest 65% of our country's land very ideal for agriculture we can topple the netherlands, possibly france in the near future in terms of agricultural export....?yet we think oil is the way out.the second fastest selling commodity in the world after petroleum is coffee.we can begin planting coffee and in the near future become a world leader in terms of export.but we abandon agriculture.till tommorrow usa is the world largest exporting nation of agricultural produce/products.why didnt they focus on only technology....?just the way we focus on only oil..??
THE WAY FORWARD INTO THE FUTURE
we all keep saying our govt is to blame fine and very good i am not disputing that fact but i think we also the citizens is a major problem and a factor to be considered here.let me explain in detailed elaboration.usa and other industrialised nations have factories and laboratories paving way for research, development and others am talking about private established companies but do we have such in our countries....?we have people who are millionaires and billionaires in our country but do they invest heavily in agriculture and technology....?now ask yourself this question are you that individual that is ready to spend the next 10-15 years of his/her life in a remote complex facility trying to develop a satellite, airplane, helicopter, bullet train and others...?i thought a nigerian few months ago in the north developed a solid fuelled rocket and many of us condemned him saying he will be a terrorist and other nonsense.we forget that is the same way the soviet union, usa and others started.how many of our youths are willing to lay down their life for their country by focusing on different aspects of technology and try to improvise and develop more in our country...?there are people who are willing to yes i know but give me a figure..for any country to grow vastly atleast 80percent of that country's population will be ready to work together because COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY BRINGS ABOUT A GOOD DEVELOPMENT..many of my youth want to go to school obtain college degree and get good office job and earn good pay, raise a family and others.if that is how the japanese decided to relax after world war 2 given the fact that they were destroyed with atomic bomb they would have been more impoverished than even our neighbouring niger republic.will office job pave way for aerospace engineering technological development...?or will involving in criminal activities just to make it either by book, hook or crook will pave way for nanotechnology, biotechnology, medical development...?cogitate swiftly please.we the citizens of the country have a more larger role to play than our govt.the govt are there to lead and represent while we are the ones to build our nation.preview how japan was able to rose to fame as well as usa and other developed nation you will see what am talking about.please rule out a nations independency out of the equation because liberia is 164yrs old gaining independence in 1867 or there about just look at her.ghana is even better off to liberia what about ethiopia that is the only country in africa not to be colonised by any nation on earth...?she is still struggling to bring herself out of her ancient ruins and political instability and many more.what about egypt that gained independence from the uk in 28 february 1922....?her economy, goodness is not even worth discussing.japan achieved industrialisation with a time frame of 60years the only country in the world to break such a record within such short notice.nigeria will be 51 this year and still nothing to account for.the constant maintenance of electricity is still a major problem let alone talking about water sufficiency, feeding(food)availability for all or even shelther proffficiency which is a deteriorating deficiency in our country.sometimes when i look around my country.i always wave my head and laugh by saying can the problems be solved...?what remedy there is to overcome these irregularities...?when there are lots of tribal/ethnic discrimination, segregation, seperation, differenciation and disintegration among all our ethnic groups, clan, dialect sect every now and then.i wont be so sure if i have to say this our generation will be the one to take our motherland to the advance future or what do you think...?
                                 CONCLUSIVE ROUND-UP
brazil developed a car engine that uses bio-fuel as its propellant from some fossil plant, japan and a host of others have designed an electric car, solar vehicles, south korea designed a car that uses water as its propellant although this is still in its test phase but when completed it will be released into the international market.do i smell oil becoming useless gradually possibly if not now maybe in the near future....?usa,germany,japan and few others now use wind technology and nuclear energy technology for development in their country for electricity generation, medical research studies in radiology as a means to find a cure to certain cancer diseases and others.its high time our country start producing machineries of her own because the value of oil will drop drastically in the near future because of advance technology.there is more to be talked about and discussed but let me rest here.WE ALL MUST THINK OF WHAT TO DO FOR OUR COUNTRY AND NOT WHAT OUR COUNTRY WILL DO FOR US.we are the future leaders of our country.we all should bear in mind that if we dont do it our leaders will never do it.accept it or reject it,your call, your take, your stand.
