Adebayo said he was arrested in Ilesa on January 9, 2010 and not Owode area of Osogbo as alleged by the police.
Insisting that the allegations levelled against him were trumped up charges, he added that it was shocking to him that the police accused him of armed robbery and changed the place where he was arrested from Ilesa to Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
The charge sheet read in court alleged that Adebayo, in collusion with some others at large, engaged in armed robbery at Owode area of Osogbo on January 9, 2010.
Adebayo was alleged to have robbed Sikirat Okanlawo of N25, 000 and recharge cards worth N4, 000, using a weapon.
But Adebayo, who objected to the content of the charge sheet, said he had never seen the complainant before his arraignment.
He said, “I am confused about the charges because I was not arrested in Osogbo and I am not a resident of Osogbo.
“I was arrested at Oke- Omiru Street in Ilesa over an allegation that I overtook the Special Anti-Robbery Squad van that was conveying suspects from Iperindo to Osogbo.”
The suspect stated further that he was accused of attempting to aid the escape of thes suspects being conveyed in the police van, adding that he was consequently charged with armed robbery in January 2010 and had been remanded in prison since then.
But the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Joshua Oladoye, told the court that the suspect was admitted to bail on the first day of his arraignment but could not perfect the bail conditions.
Adebayo, who said there was nobody to stand surety for him, stressed that his father was old and his younger brother, Gbenga, was helpless.
The Magistrate, Mr. Olusola Aluko, adjourned the case till June 15, 2011 for further hearing.
