Speaking, Mr. John Iwarue, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, told newsmen in Lagos that AIT is supposed to show the African Experience. He stated that Africa is not different from other countries as there are good and bad, but advised that the media should highlight more of the good part to the rest of the world, which is what makes DAAR Communcation a better partner for the project.
Since its inception in 1957, the Miss Nigeria competition has represented the highest of ideals showcasing positive attributes of the Nigerian women which is elegance, poise, talent, intelligence as well as beauty. Miss Nigeria has always been a role model to young Nigerian ladies and spokesperson for national volunteerism and charity, while using her title to educate the nation on issues of importance to her and the society at large.
There will be no swim wear segment which is what the pageant is noted for. The contestants will be judged on poise, intelligence, cultural values as well as beauty. The winner will be a reflection of the tradition of style, sophistication and service.
Under the stewardship of Chief Adenike Oshinowo-Soleye, the Chief Executive and Creative Director of Miss Nigeria pageant, in partnership with DAAR Communications Ltd, this year’s competition will once again infuse old world glamour with modern elegance.
Empowering women is the passion of the organisers, so the prizes for the winner will include full scholarship to be educated in an institution of higher learning, anywhere in the world. She will also go home with a luxurious car, one year salary, wardrobe for a year, from leading Nigerian designer as well as many other gifts.
The competition will cover Africa, Europe and North America. Thirty-Six contestants will be selected from the zonal castings to represent every state in the nation. The selected contestants will be housed at the the luxurious Miss Nigeria Resort where they will learn from numerous experts in a variety of fields, important information necessary for a successful reign as Miss Nigeria 2011. Their stay at the rsort will be captured in a two-week class Reality show called Crowning of the Queen. The public wil be part of the show where they will be given the chance to vote for a candidate of their choice.
Speaking at the media briefing, Executive Director, DAAR Media Services, Salomey Eferemo, expressed excitement of DAAR Communications as partners of the event. She stated the need to celebrate the youth. “Before now, people thought beauty queens were prostitutes, but Miss Nigeria is not just a showbiz, but to educate the youths and bring values to our society”.
