The stench emanating from Kumordzi's clothes sent the trial judge, policemen and audience covering their noses with their handkerchiefs.
When the case was called Kumordzi, instead of mounting the witness box, rather ran towards where the trial judge, Mr Eric Kyei Baffour, was seated.
The policemen shouted at Kumordzi who finally entered the dock. However, he failed to respond to his name and the charges read out to him.
Amidst the awful stench, he rather saluted anytime a question was posed to him, including the charges and his name. The policemen, who escorted him to court, however, said he was feigning madness in order to get off the hook.
The court therefore could not take Kumordzi's plea and remanded him into police custody to reappear on May 11. Based on his behaviour, the court ordered the police to send Kumordzi, who is being held for possessing narcotic drugs, namely cannabis, to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital for examination. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Samuel Sarkwah, told the court that on April 20, this year, a team of military and policemen embarked on an operation at Tudu area in Accra to clamp down activities of drug peddlers and other criminal activities.
The prosecutor said through the efforts of sniffing dogs Kumordzi was arrested with a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis in a bag.
Chief Inspector Sarkwah said Kumordzi was taken to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police Headquarters for further investigations while the exhibits were forwarded to the Ghana Standards Board for examination.
