A Thirty two year- old Ikenna ( other names with held), who police described as a notorious car vandal has explained that he had severally planned to quit evil acts but his friends have always held him back. He argued that his ‘bad’ friends lured him into doing evil acts such as pilfering and car theft.

The suspect who was arrested along with one of his friends by detectives from FESTAC police station argued that he had made up his mind, while at the Kirikiri prison, a forth night ago, not to get involved in any act that would smear the image of the family.. He noted that the FESTAC police station ,headed by Mr. Usman Ndabubo, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, has always foiled their attempts. But he was allegedly pesuaded to get involved again in the incident that led to his recent arrest. He spent over two weeks in the pison where he was remanded for allegedly vandalizing a brand new jeep at 202 road, FESTAC.

He argued that he took the decision to quit crime after it dawned on him that he was the only surviving son of his family of seven. ‘‘Aside from being the only suriving son, the DPO does not give us breathing space to operate. He always sends his men to every dark spots. Since he came, we have not successfully carried out a good operation and that was why most of us have stopped the evil acts’’.

He alleged that the incident that led to his latest arrest occurred when his partner in crime, just after two days of his release, from Kirikiri prison, lured him into following him for another operation.. He noted that after exchanging pleasantaries, his friend told him that he had a mouth watering deal for only two of them to transact.

Ikenna argued that he plainly informed his friend that he has repented and would no longer go into crimes but the friend told him that he had surveyed the place and found out that the coast was clear. He argued that in spite of his refusal to follow him, his friend continued to pester on him to go for the last attempt. He said ‘’When I came back from Kirikiri, my friend saw me and informed me that he had discovered a business deal that would replenish my drained pocket at the prison. I refused but he kept on convincing me. He told me that we would not be caught.. He further assured me that we would make money to launch our selves into the big boys club in the area. I insisted that I I won’t do it again because I know that FESTAC policemen are up and doing. I was afraid of being arrested again but he assured me that the owner of the car, he wanted us to vandalise had travelled .He also said there was no police presence at the place and that was why I joined him to the place at night.’’

Explaining how he had carried out several vandals he said ‘‘ Since I came back from Ivory Coast, I ‘ve been doing the business. I know all the techniques used by all our members.. If you take me to a vandalized car I would tell you the group that did it. This is because I know the techniques used by any group. Most of them passed through me. I tutored them. Even when I was in Prison, Police called me on phone and informed me that some people had vandalised a car in the area, I asked them how it was done and they told me. Immediately I told them the group that did it. I am vast in all vandals’ techniques. At times They went after the gang. I made N15 to N3o.000 in every successful operation. Our buyers came from Trinity. In fact they tell us the types of brain box and other vital car parts to steal.’’

His colleague in crime, Sunny who claimed to be a model, argued that he did not persuade Ikenna to join him but admitted that he brought the business. He alleged that it was because he did not know the correct tools to buy to enhance the vandalisation of the jeep that made him to seek for expert advice from Ikenna.

However a police Officer at FFESTAC Police station who arrested them said the suspects were caught while committing the act.

The Police Officer, who pleaded for anonymity said Ikenna has been severally charged to court for similar offences. He argued that Ikenna assured the police that he won’t get involved in crimes again shortly after he returned from prison.
