The Nigerian Customs Service on Monday at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos, intercepted a bag containing $110,060 (about N15m), which was reportedly concealed in a 40 feet container.

According to the Customs Area Comptroller, Tin Can Island Port, Mr. Austen Warikoru, the bag was also hidden in a car with several personal effects in the container.

Warikoru, who spoke with journalists at Apapa on Monday, said the discovery was made during a routine examination of cargo by his men.

The container, marked MFKU/966291/0, he added, came into the country from the United States through a vessel, MV Dunedune. The CAC said the importer of the car and other items of the container had not been determined.

He said the idea of bringing in money from other countries hidden in imported cargoes was an offence under Money Laundering Act.
