Keke Napep "Tricycle" Rider Charged With Man's Death

A tricycle operator, Michael Okenini, was on Monday arraigned at an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly causing the death of a 50-year-old man.

Okenini, 26, is standing trial on a two-count charge of dangerous driving and manslaughter, News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Daniel Ighodalo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 23, at Langbasa Expressway in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos.

Ighodalo alleged that the accused rode the tricycle with registration No. QU 207 FST in a dangerous manner on the public highway which subsequently led to the death of Mr. Peter Onyehar.

He said that the deceased was crossing the expressway when the tricycle knocked him down, causing his death.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 18 and 27 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Y. Badejo-Okusanya granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till July 25, for further hearing.
